Become a Member

When you become a member of the Society, it directly supports conservation efforts of wildlife and their natural habitats in the island, while promoting an understanding of the need, which are the objectives of the Society.

  • Membership categories are given below for you to select the most suitable one for you.

    * Junior Membership is for ages up to 17years with parental consent. They will not be entitled to vote at meetings or serve as Office Bearers and are also not eligible to make bungalow reservations 
    Upon reaching the age of 18 years, their Membership in the relevant category will cease. They can apply as Youth (up to age 29 years) and subsequently as Ordinary Members (from age 30 and above).

    * Life Membership can be requested by a letter and criteria requirement is, having been an Ordinary Member of good standing for at least 5 years.

    Your duly filled Membership Application form can be submitted online, via email, via whatsapp or in person to the office upon getting it endorsed by two current members of good standing, with at least one year of membership or requesting the General Committee Members to endorse it for you, through the Society office.

    The Membership Application submission cycle is from the 2nd of every month to the 1st of the following month. All applications are tabled at the Society General Committee meeting on every third Wednesday of the month, and you will be notified of the outcome thereafter.

  • Membership Entitles You To The Following Privileges

      • Free subscription to the Society's English language publication Loris (June and December) or the Sinhala language Warana (indicate your preference in the box overleaf), newsletters etc. Junior members are entitled to Warana only.
      • Use of the Society's reference library at its Headquarters.
      • Members and their guests are entitled to use the Society's bungalows at Yala (Palatupana), Uda Walawe and Wilpattu.
      • Participation at the Society's meetings, discussions, field excursions etc. and also to serve on the Society's committees.

    Note on Junior membership:
    Junior members are not entitled to vote at any meeting, hold office or make bungalow reservations.
    They are entitled to receive the Society's Sinhala language publication Warana or to purchase the English language publication Loris at a concessionary rate.
    Upon reaching the age of 18, they cease to be members of the Society but are eligible to apply for Ordinary Membership.

    Volunteers & Internships:
    The society is always looking for volunteers from its membership to help us in many of our ongoing projects and daily activities. If you have any skills or time you like to help us with please feel free to email us on [email protected] with details on how you can help us.
    We currently offer short term internships to students to work at our head office to help with various tasks. If you like to get some experience working for an NGO in the conservation area, do drop us an email with your CV and interests.
